The Edmonton Eskimos are -6.5 favourites over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, with a game total of 45 points. (Odds courtesy of Sports Interaction)

Early in the season the defending champion Saskatchewan Roughriders were looking in championship form. However, a rash of injuries caused the team to end the season on 1-5 run. Although Saskatchewan still held on to 3rd place in the West, some think they got the worst of it because they have to face Edmonton at home, where they are 5-18 in their last 23 games, including a 24-0 shutout loss back in Week 14.

Darian Durant will not be starting this game, but he will be suited up on the sidelines and there has been hints he may be available in some limited capacity. But it the meantime, it is Kerry Joseph who will get the start as quarterback for Saskatchewan. Joseph is the third quarterback the ‘Riders have gone with during this 1-5 skid.

The Eskimos have their own quarterback woes as Mike Reilly’s status is unclear due to a foot injury, and as a result, Matt Nichols has been named the starter against Edmonton. Nicols is 0-5 as a starter in his CFL career, but Edmonton coach Chris Jones has said that Reilly will play, he just has not said when, or for how long.

One might ask why Edmonton are still favoured despite Reilly not starting, and that is because of their defense. Led by JC Sherritt, the Eskimos have not allowed a touchdown in their last three home games. This does not bode well for the Roughriders, who were shut out in their last visit to Commonwealth Stadium for the first time in 28 years.

Saskatchewan is 5-18 SU in its last 23 games when playing on the road against Edmonton
The total has gone UNDER in 13 of Saskatchewan’s last 19 games when playing on the road against Edmonton

Prediction: Eskimos head coach Chris Jones has won multiple Grey Cups as a defensive coordinator and he will have his guys ready, so look for this Edmonton defense to shut Saskatchewan down. Bet on Edmonton -6.5 and the Under 45 points.
