Updated Odds For Sochi 2014 Mens Hockey

sochi 2014 canadian hockey betting odds

With the official roster being set for team Canada we are able to break down the odds of Team Canada winning a gold medal as Sochi 2014 approaches. It all depends on which online betting site you visit, but some odds makers have Canada as the favourite to win gold at Sochi 2014. Although, news like Steve Stamkos not joining the team tends to shake things up…

There was not much surprise when Sidney Crosby made the roster and was named team captain. He will also be on the ice with Penguins linemate Chris Kunitz, who has been been on fire with 16 points in his last 15 games, having what looks to be a record setting season for him. This means that Team Canada will boast both of the NHL’s top offensive players because John Tavares is second only to Sidney Crosby in the scoring race.

On the defensive side, Canada has last years Norris Trophy winner PK Subban who is 4th among NHL defensemen in assists and eager to prove himself at the Olympic level, saying he has already envisioned winning the gold medal along with his Canadian teammates.  Nashville Predators blue-liner Shea Webber is also one of the leauges top offensive blue-liner with 38 points so far this season. Duncan Kieth has bolstered the blue line of the Chicago Blackhawks for their Stanley Cup runs and won gold for Team Canada back in 2010. Keith’s numbers this season are on par with his 2009-2010 season where he won the Norris Trophy.

When it comes to goaltending, Canada has gone with Roberto Luongo and Carey Price, the former winning gold with Canada back in Vancouver 2010. When rosters initially came out it looked likely that Luongo would be named the consensus #1, but his recent stretch of poor play puts that in jeopardy. With that said, Carey Price has not been much better and this leaves Canadian fans a little nervous heading into Sochi.

With so much talent to choose from, much talk has been made about who was left off the roster. Names such as; Martin St. Louis, Claude Giroux and Eric Staal are a few that pop up in conversations. St. Louis is a goal-scorer and a fan favourite that has been playing with a chip on his shoulder ever since being left off. Eric Staal even sent a letter to Steve Yzerman pleading his case after being left off, which shows just how passionate Canadian athletes are about Olympic hockey.

The progress of Steve Stamkos was looking hopeful and he initially aimed to be back for the Lightening before the Olympics even began. Unfortunately, Stamkos wont be ready and it appears likely that Martin St. Louis will take his spot on the roster.
