Alexis Davis is from Port Colborne, Ontario and is a veteran of the sport who was one of the trailblazers when it comes to womens MMA in Canada. The 16-5 Davis is currently riding a five fight winning streak, and is undefeated since the inclusion of female fighters in the UFC.

Ronda Rousey is 9-0 and was moved along quickly for her title, with this fight being her fifth defense of the inaugural UFC womens bantamweight belt. Rousey silenced her critics by making easy work of her opponents, finishing all of them in the first round, except in her rematch with Miesha Tate, which was finished via 3rd round armbar.

So, if Canadians are wondering why Davis is such a large underdog, it is largely due to Rousey’s recent dominance. Challengers have been unable to avoid to judo style takedowns of Rousey, and the subsequent armbar attempts that follow. What makes Rousey even more dangerous is that she has been working on her stand-up game, and showed she is capable of finishing a fight via strikes like she did against Sara McMann.

Though, it is unlikely that Rousey will stand with the boxing oriented Alexis Davis, and instead try and take her to the ground like previous opponents have successfully done. But, one area where Alexis Davis may have an edge over Rousey is in BJJ, where she is black belt that is capable of defending submissions and attacking from her back (which is where where she will probably end up in this fight with Ronda Rousey).
