On Saturday, October 8th, The Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia will play host to a 5-round main event between Canadian phenom Rory MacDonald and former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine. The oddsmakers have Rory MacDonald as the (-500) favourite with 4.5 rounds being the over/under for this fight. Canadians can bet UFC online at Bodog and get a 100% bonus up to $100.

Rory MacDonald is working his way back up to a title shot after consecutive wins over two very tough fighters in Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley — the latter of whom Rory dominated in a lopsided 30-27 decision victory in front of his home fans in Vancouver.  Now, Rory will be traveling to the opposite coast to kick off the first ever UFC event in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Rory comes off as the large (-500) betting favourite, with the oddsmakers shading the fight to go the distance with the over 4.5 rounds being (-165). Generally, Rory has taken a conservative approach to MMA (similar to Georges St-Pierre), and his last four wins have come via decision. Rory opts to work off his jab from the outside, while he looks for opportune takedowns that usually result in prolonged ground control.

Tarec Saffiedene is much the same because he is also on a 5 fight winning streak — all by way of judge’s decision. It is not likely that Saffiedine will knock Rory out, considering his lack of finishing ability and the fact that Rory stood up to the punishment of Robbie Lawlor and still saw the final bell.

Saffiedene’s three career losses have come by decision and his habit of allowing fights to reach the judges scorecards could come back to haunt him because this is Canada, afterall, and Rory should be the overwhelming crowd favourite.

Prediction: We hope to continue on the success of our most recent UFC prediction and take Rory MacDonald at (-500) odds.
